It shouldn’t take one, but the 2026 fuel crisis has marked the official overdrive of cargo bikes as a full-fledged car replacement instead of a niche subculture. More people are riding with their kids to school, to work, and to grab groceries. 

Urban commuters are often the subject of headlines that praise their modularity, light frames, foldability, and belt drives. However, riding in a rural setting is a whole different beast. Out in the countryside, out goes the smooth asphalt, and in comes loose gravel and gradient climbs that will test the fittest of legs. When your nearest bike shop is nearly 30 miles away, and public charging infrastructure is virtually unavailable, a standard city commuter simply does not cut it.

Today, we answer the age-old question: what can money buy you? It can certainly buy you a better e-bike. But just how good an e-bike can money buy you? At what point do arbitrary brand names replace innovation? And can the biggest price tag fetch you the greatest electric bike?

Visibility is key on the road. This is a fundamental, inarguable truth. You cannot confidently ride along the road without seeing what’s in front of you. Simultaneously, you can never ride with full confidence when you fear being mowed down by a heavier vehicle.
