How does an electric bike motor work?

An electric bike motor utilizes an electric power source, usually a battery, to drive a motor that is mounted either in the front, rear, or mid-section of the bicycle. When the rider pedals, sensors in the motor detect movement, and the motor determines how much assistance is needed based on the selected pedal-assist level or throttle input.
