While urban commuters top out at 20-25 mph, eMoto powerhouses fly by you on the road at 30 to 60 mph easily. At those speeds, a standard bicycle lid is laughable. A dedicated e-bike helmet is simply insufficient. You need a dedicated, full-face/ spherical helmet.
To safely navigate tracks and open trails, and to seamlessly transition onto streets, riders need heavy-duty protection. That protection warrants helmets that meet at least the strict DOT or ECE 22.06 motorcycle standards. Additionally, we’d like to see full-face helmets that are ASTM F1952 certified for agility.
Option 1 -
The Fox Racing ProFrame RS costs $396 and is an excellent hybrid option for eMoto riders who choose agility and airflow over full-face protection. For that price tag, you get a sub-1 kg helmet that is downhill-certified to ASTM F1952.
Instead of an imposing heavy shell, the proframe RS saves weight by utilizing MIPS-integra construction. This architecture combines dual-density foam (EPS and EPP) to aid with both low- and high-speed impacts. The helmet also features an anti-microbial liner, a 3-position adjustable visor, and an under-visor GoPro mount.
Option 2 -
The Bell Moto-10 spherical is the pinnacle of protection for aggressive off-roading. Priced at $900, this professional-grade motocross helmet is fully DOT- and Snell-certified, meeting the highest safety standards for off-road and trail riding.
The defining element of the Moto-10 is Spherical Technology, powered by MIPS, which uses a ball-and-socket design to redirect impact away from the brain. The helmet features a carbon fiber shell, which reduces weight without compromising durability. Bell’s Thermal Exchange Airflow System (TEAS) will cool you on those tricky, long rides.
Option 3 -
Alpinestars is the logo and brand that is synonymous with adventurous riding. The Alpinestars Supertech M7 is engineered specifically for eDirt Bike enthusiasts, but manufactured at a professional grade. Priced at $520, this helmet is fully certified to ECE 22.06 and DOT standards. It presents a rigid, race-ready, full-face profile that excels on track.
The SM7 is available in 6 sizes, from XS to XXL. A critical design element is the smooth base contour, with a soft EPS foam liner designed to mould over time and protect the rider’s collarbone in a crash. It also features 28 air ports to boost ventilation, even at lower speeds.
Option 4 -
The Fox Racing V1 Noble costs $265 and may be the ideal entry-level helmet for e-dirt bike and trail riders. This helmet meets the rigorous DOT and ECE 22.06 standards, ensuring full protection of your chin and skull at speeds exceeding 40 mph.
The V1 features an advanced polycarbonate and ABS shell designed to redistribute forces in the event of an impact. It also features MIPS construction to combat rotational energy in high-speed crashes to prevent neck-twisting.
Option 5 -
The LS2 X-Force Carbon bridges the gap between heavy moto-lids and sleek e-bike helmets. Priced at $430, this full-certified ECE 22.06 helmet is constructed from 100% “high-grade” carbon fiber weave, delivering elite motor protection in a significantly lighter 1300g package.

The Verdict
When it comes to riding an eMoto or eDirt bike, we go back to the adage – your brain is worth protecting. Don’t use a standard bike helmet to ride a motorcycle. You wouldn’t touch an over-hot plate without mitts, would you?
