Best Budget Full-Suspension Folding Ebike

This is an article that covers the specs and use case for the Jasion X-Hunter ST, from an expert Ebike reviewer's perspective.

Jasion X-Hunter ST Review

The Perfect Ride Series

Intro

Welcome back to The Perfect Ride Series, where we break down electric bikes the way real riders actually experience them. Yes, Jasion sent us this bike to test, but as always, every opinion here is 100% my own.

If you’ve been looking for a folding fat-tire Ebike that sits somewhere between commuter convenience and off-road capability (without blowing up your budget), the X-Hunter ST might already be on your shortlist.

Today, we’ll figure out if the X-Hunter ST is the right fit for you, talk about what it does well, where it falls short, and whether this upgraded version of the original X-Hunter is actually worth the hype.

Price Point

The ST comes in at $899 for their Holiday Sale (down from $1,899), which is honestly wild for the amount of bike you get. Full suspension, hydraulic brakes, a folding frame, fat tires, and a claimed peak output of 1400W at this price point is basically unheard of. Now, when I say “claimed” peak output, we have to just take the brand’s word for this, as we don’t have a Dyno in the shop to get an accurate reading on peak output. I would say, just based on my experience, it doesn’t quite feel like a full 1,400 watts, but I can’t say for certain that’s not the case. You can check the latest price HERE.

Either way, this is squarely in the budget powerhouse category, extremely competitive with options from Lectric, Engwe, Heybike, and similar brands.

Use Case

The X-Hunter ST is built for riders who want:

  • A folding Ebike with a larger, 750-watt motor

  • A comfortable step-thru frame that’s easy to mount

  • A bike that can handle both pavement and true off-road trails, thanks to the full-suspension setup

  • Something that fits easily in SUVs, trucks, RVs, and even larger sedans

  • A “do-it-all” platform without premium pricing

This is not a lightweight city bike, and while it could be just fine living in the concrete jungle, it’s a bit heavy if you want to lug it up a few flights of stairs.

Who it’s ideal for:

  • RV travelers

  • Campers

  • Riders 5'1"–6'3"

  • Bigger riders (high 200s, low 300s) Total weight capacicty is 480lbs

  • Anyone who wants a mix of power and portability

Top Speed & Power

Jasion advertises a 750W motor, which has started to become the standard across most of the consumer-level Ebikes available today. There are smaller, lighter, folding Ebike that have 500-watt motors (and some with less), but for camping, RVing, and anything off-road, the 750-watt motor is generally going to give you better performance in these types of environments.

They claim 85 Nm of torque, and based on my actual riding, that feels pretty accurate. The bike pulls harder than most budget folding models, especially if you're used to something like the Lectric XP 2.0 or Engwe EP-2.

As for real-world top speed:

  • I was able to hit about 29 mph on PAS 5 in a flat, concrete riding environment.

  • You might see slightly more if you’re lighter than me, or slightly less if you're heavier.

Acceleration from 0–20 mph is decently quick, and while it does taper off past 28 mph, it's still plenty fast for the type of riding most people will be doing with it. The mechanical advantage of the 20” wheel is pretty evident if you’ve ridden a larger 26” wheel with 85Nm of torque. The 20” wheel will definitely feel more torquey.

Accessories You May Want

Jasion includes a LOT for free during their sale period:

  • Rear rack

  • Fenders

  • Extra 1-year warranty

You can also pick up:

  • Rear basket

  • Second battery

  • Phone mount

  • Combo lock

Functionally, this bike is already pretty well-equipped. Most riders will only need a rear basket or upgraded seat, depending on comfort preference. The stock saddle is a bit on the wider/comfort side of things, but when it comes to saddles, it’s personal preference, where a saddle meets up with the rider’s sit bones will change how comfortable, or uncomfortable, a saddle will feel. It is nice to see a larger saddle come stock (most bikes don't have a very comfortable saddle), and I found it to be pretty comfortable and enjoyable to ride.

Weight & Capacity

Jasion lists the weight, but depending on configuration, it's roughly in the 70–75 lb range (before accessories). It’s not light, but that’s completely normal for this style of bike, especially considering a lot of that weight is a slightly larger battery for this style, a larger motor, and full suspension.

The big standout here is the 480 lb max payload rating, which is one of the highest in the industry for a folding Ebike. That makes it an excellent option for larger riders or riders looking to beat this thing up in an off-road environment.

Range

Battery specs:

  • 48V 13Ah

  • Mid-capacity pack

  • Locking and removable, sleeved in the down tube

Jasion advertises up to 71 miles, which is technically achievable… if you're in PAS 1, pedaling lightly, on flat pavement, with a light rider, wind at your back, and good life choices.

Realistically:

  • 20–25 miles throttle-only

  • 25–35 miles mixed riding

  • 40–50 miles in PAS 1–2 with light pedaling

For campers, commuters, and weekend riders, this is plenty. If you need more range, they do sell a secondary battery. The battery is a bit longer, and not easily carriable for long-range rides, but if you wanted to have a second one back at the camper to swap out, you could definitely do that.

Terrain

This one caught me off guard in a good way; the X-Hunter ST actually handles a lot more terrain than I expected for sub-$1k.

It’s built for:

  • Dirt

  • Gravel

  • Grass

  • Fire roads

  • City streets and bike lanes

The 20×4" fat tires give you better traction than most commuter bikes, and the dual suspension takes the sting out of bumps, potholes, and washboard terrain.

Not ideal for:

  • Steep downhill mountain trails

  • Fast technical riding

  • Sand dunes (no bikes really are)

  • Aggressive jumps

This is still a folding bike, so while it's very capable for a folding Ebike, it's still a folding Ebike and should be ridden like one.

Transport & Folding

The ST folds, though it’s still bulky due to the fat tires and suspension. This is normal: all folding fat-tire Ebikes are chunky. They can use words like small and compact, but every folding Ebike is still 65-75lbs, depending on the model, and that weight doesn't go away because you do a little origami. Just some things to consider when you're thinking about transport and how you'll move this thing around.

It fits well in:

  • RV storage bays

  • Truck beds (even sideways)

  • Most SUVs

  • Wagons/hatchbacks

Ride Feel

Overall Feel The X-Hunter ST rides like a mini adventure bike. It’s:

  • Stable

  • Quick off the line

  • Extra comfortable thanks to dual suspension

  • Really confidence-inspiring for new riders (thanks to the fat tires being easier to balance on, and feeling exceptionally stable)

Compared to something like the Lectric XP 3.0, this feels significantly more planted. Some people may like having a bit more nimbleness with a smaller tire, so at that point it's user preference.

Riding Position Seat height: 31.5"–37.8", which gives you a good range of adjustability.

At 5'10", I found the fit comfortable. Taller riders may want to raise the bars slightly, depending on riding style. However, one thing you have to try is slamming the seat down to its lowest and raising the handlebars up as high as they'll go. You can thank me later. Not practical, but a ton of fun to cruise around chopper style.

Display

The display is similar to most budget fat-tire bikes and shows us:

  • Speed

  • PAS level

  • Battery meter

  • Odometer

  • Trip

Nothing fancy here, but that’s fine. On bikes that might take a few spills off-road, simpler is usually better. The big things are knowing how fast you're going and how much longer you can ride, which they provide here with the screen. It's easy enough to see in direct sunlight, though it has been a bit more overcast than normal, so someone who lives in Arizona may need to chime in to confirm.

Safety

The X-Hunter ST includes:

  • Hydraulic disc brakes (big win at this price)

  • Integrated front headlight (bright enough for dark roads)

  • Brake lights

  • High-load step-thru frame

  • UL-listed charger

  • 4" fat tires for extra stability

Customers have noted minor brake rub or squeaks out of the box, but that’s basically universal for budget fat-tire Ebikes. A small pad adjustment fixes it immediately. The unit I got for testing didn't need it, but it's worth noting that this is common mong order-to-your-door ebikes, and is a super easy fix that usually requires no extra tools than what's provided.

Measurements

  • Minimum seat height: 31"

  • Maximum seat height: 38"

  • Handlebar height: 48"

  • Wheelbase: 44"

  • Total length: 67"

Fits most riders between 5'1" and 6'3". Boom! Dry scientific data.

Extras

Included or available:

  • Rear rack (free during promo)

  • Fenders (free during promo)

  • Baskets

  • Extra battery

  • Upgraded light

  • Phone mount

  • Combo lock

When thinking about what accessories you should get, I always recommend people to ride around with the stock configuration for a bit to see what they'd actually use in real life, but with that being said, the most common things I see people adding are a rear trunk bag (usually one with fold-down saddle bags) and a left side bar-end mirror.

Buying Process

You can check the latest price HERE. Ordering is straightforward:

  1. Choose your color

  2. Add accessories if needed

  3. Pick your payment option

  4. Wait 2–4 days, depending on your state

  5. Minor assembly (front wheel, handlebars, pedals)

Compared to most brands, Jasion’s shipping speed is excellent, especially inside the lower 48. The assembly process was super quick, and while there are some brands that ship bikes completely assembled, for the price I'd gladly do a little DIY here.

After Purchase

Warranty

  • 1-year standard warranty

  • Free extra year during promo (2-year warranty puts them toe-to-toe with Aventon and Velotric)

  • Strong parts availability (probably the #1 issue with DTC brands these days, so it's nice to see Jasion being an exception here)

Service Experience

  • Customer service replies quickly

  • Replacement parts are easy to source

  • Local shops have no issues servicing it (standard components)

Some customers mentioned minor assembly hurdles (like installing baskets or adjusting brakes), but that’s normal for this category. Also, as a note, these points come from their reviews, not my personal experience.

Final Thoughts

For the price, the Jasion X-Hunter ST is kind of ridiculous. Power, comfort, hydraulic brakes, and folding convenience all for under $900? It’s easily one of the best bang-for-your-buck adventure Ebikes you can buy right now.

It’s not a mountain bike, and it's not lightweight, but for campers, RV owners, heavier riders, or anyone who wants a powerful fat-tire Ebike without breaking the bank, this one checks a LOT of boxes.

If you’re looking for a fun, capable, go-anywhere folding Ebike, the X-Hunter ST might just be the perfect ride for you.
